Stow Disability Association - Registered Charity 1063286

It is with regret that I have to inform you that as of 1 January 2018 Stow Disability Association will no longer be offering community transport to groups or individuals.
This decision has been made after lots of thought. I realise that many groups, organisations, and in particular disabled individuals, will miss this service which we have offered for many years.
I have tried to get volunteer drivers who can commit themselves to driving the minibus but this has proved impossible and I know it would fall back on me to do the organising and driving.
The running and driving of the minibus and also the running of the Stow Disability Association charity has been down to myself for many years. At the age of 73 I feel it is time for me to no longer commit myself to this unpaid role and to step back so that myself and my wife can start to enjoy our retirement.
The 45 pence per mile, which is all we are allowed to charge for trips, does not cover the running costs of the minibus. The ‘normal’ running costs are in excess of £200 a month. This does not take into account expenses such as tyres, servicing and obligatory wheelchair lift services. Another of my tasks is raising money through donations and fund raising events for the running costs of the minibus.
Stow Disability Association day centre/social club will continue to be run at Jameson Court Moreton in Marsh and the minibus will only be used for the benefit of the Stow Disability Association members and shopping trips for residents of Jameson Court.
